Who We Are
We are a volunteer, non-profit organization of people who are interested in the library
community. We have a common concern for the library’s active expansion and
participation in community life. We believe that good library service is important to
everyone.
Our Purpose
Our main purpose is fundraising. We provide supplemental spending dollars to the
Bonney Lake Library outside of the budget allotted by the Pierce County Library
System. In some cases Friends Groups are invited to support system-level projects,
meaning that some of our funds may be shared with all of our community branch
libraries and/or the PLS Foundation.
Meetings
We meet on the second Wednesday of each month with the Senior Librarian, Youth
Services Librarian and the Adult Services Librarian. Also in attendance are the
current board members and interested regular members. We identify and discuss the
monetary needs at this branch, and decide as a group how best to meet those
needs.
In The Community
Our goal is to promote the Friends group and share information about the library and
what we do. We consider participation in many community events and are open to
most venues and opportunities to promote and educate people about our group and
the library.
Future Goals
Our main goal right now is to increase membership in the Friends group, and to raise
funds to supplement financial needs of the Bonney Lake Library.
In addition to what the PCLS brings to you, the Friends of the Bonney Lake Library
supports library activities in the following ways:
● Meets with liaisons within this local branch each month to explore, discuss
and determine programming and support for patrons of all ages
● Provides funding for programs outside of the PCLS budget, focusing on best
meeting our community’s interests
● Offers supplemental funding to enhance existing programs in the PCLS
● Purchases materials and equipment to supplement library services provided
by PCLS
● Recycles good reading into our community with our book fairs
In recent years, The Friends of the Bonney Lake Library has provided funding for
programs and contests for children as well as adults. We’ve bought books to give out
as summer reading program prizes and we purchase several annual magazine
subscriptions for the library. We contribute thousands of dollars towards library
activities, all raised by volunteers in your community.
The Friends are open to new volunteers and patron suggestions! Let us know: what
would you like to do, see and have available at your Bonney Lake Library Branch?
The Friends of the Bonney Lake Library is formed exclusively for charitable, literary, and educational purposes as specified in Sec 501 (c)(3) of the Internal Revenue Code of 1954, as amended.
Volunteer efforts stimulate the use of the library’s resources, facilities, and services as well as focusing public attention on the library and encouraging gifts, endowments, and bequests for the benefit of the library community.
The Friends of the Bonney Lake Library supports the freedom to read as expressed in the American Library Association Bill of Rights, and the enhancement of literacy in the community.
